Women's Volleyball Wins Again

Violets Go to 5-0 With Win Over Stockton

The New York University women's volleyball team defeated Stockton University in four sets on Friday, September 6, at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.

Both teams entered the contest unbeaten at 4-0 before the Violets came away with the 25-22, 25-19, 18-25, 25-17 victory.

There were 13 ties in the opening set. The Violets snapped the final deadlock, 17-17, by recording three straight points and then clinching the opener on Haley Holz's (Palatine, IL /Palatine) kill.

The second set was not as close, as the Violets broke a 3-3 tie with three straight points and never trailed again. The advantage grew to as many as six points on four occasions.

The third set was tied 10-10 when the Ospreys scored three points in a row and never relinquished the lead. They increased the margin to as many as eight points in handling NYU its first set loss at home this season.

The hosts quickly rebounded by scoring the first four points of the final set and never trailing. The Violets went up by as many as nine points five times before clinching the match on Caroline Rapp's (Boynton Beach, FL/American Heritage School) kill.

Holz and Gretchen Kincade (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) each had 13 kills for NYU, while Nicole Dao (Bethesda, MD/The Academy of Holy Cross) and Veronica Johnson (Santa Monica, CA/Santa Monica) both recorded 22 assists. Dao also had 12 digs, with Jacqueline Kupeli (Danville, CA/Monte Vista) leading the way with 22. Rapp added 12.

Kelsey Kraetz (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) had a match-high seven blocks as NYU dominated at the net (10-3 in total blocks).

"We played three really good complete sets and in the third Stockton outplayed us," said Head Coach Andrew Brown. "It was a good test for us and will only help make us stronger as we move forward."

The Violets are right back in action on Saturday when they host Skidmore College at 12pm and Springfield College at 4pm at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.
