The New York University women's soccer team posted a 2-0 victory over visiting Mount St. Mary College on Saturday, September 29, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The Violets and Knights were locked 0-0 through the first 26 minutes of play, but NYU's Sam March (Glastonbury, CT/Kingswood Oxford School) opened up the scoring when she booted a penalty kick past Knights' goalkeeper Cyan Scott. Scott and NYU goalkeeper Meghan Marhan (Glen Ridge, NJ/Glen Ridge) each saved two shots in the first 45 minutes of play. .
March continued her stellar performance by scoring the final goal early in the second half. The junior dribbled around two defenders and booted the ball from five feet out that found the left corner of the net at 49:48.
NYU out-shot Mount St. Mary 22-5 overall and 11-3 in shots on goal.
Marhan finished with three saves in recording her fourth shutout of the season.
The victory was the 100th for NYU Head Coach Michele Canning.
"We have been making a lot of progress in our training this season," said Canning. " Our progress really showed in Sam's performance today."
The Violets are back in action on Saturday, October 5, when they start University Athletic Association (UAA) competition against Case Western Reserve University. That matchup is slated for 5:30 pm back at Gaelic Park.
