The New York University women's volleyball team completed play at the New York Region Challenge, which was hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Friday and Saturday, November 1-2, in Rochester, NY.
The Violets faced SUNY Cortland in their first match on Saturday before facing Nazareth College in the second. NYU (24-6) swept the Red Dragons in three sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-19) before doing the same to the Golden Flyers (25-17, 25-21, 25-19).
"This was another strong performance," said Head Coach
Andrew Brown. "Today we controlled the serve and passing game. We also closed out the weekend with a very physical presence at the net."
Haley Holz (Palatine, IL /Palatine) registered 14 kills against SUNY Cortland while hitting an efficient .419 at the net.
Nicole Dao (Bethesda, MD/The Academy of Holy Cross) with 28 assists and
Jacqueline Kupeli (Danville, CA/Monte Vista) with 21 digs also were team leaders for the Violets.
Abby Ausmus (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day School) and
Kelsey Kraetz (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) each contributed three solo blocks.
Against Nazareth, Holz again had double-digit kills (10), while
Maddie DeJong (Houston, TX/Second Baptist School) added nine. Dao recorded 33 assists and Kupeli again produced a team high with 11 digs.
"We now look forward to building off these wins as we prepare for UAA play next weekend," Brown added.
The Violets will return to action on Friday, November 8, when they travel to the University of Chicago for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship. NYU will face Carnegie Mellon University in its first match.
