Women's Volleyball Rolls to Road Win

Violets Improve to 5-3 After Straight-Set Victory

The New York University women's volleyball team traveled to the College of New Rochelle and came away with a victory, defeating the Blue Angels in three sets on Tuesday, September 11, in New Rochelle, NY.

NYU (5-3) defeated CNR (0-7) 25-11, 25-18, 26-24.

In the opening set, the Violets raced out to a 7-2 lead before the Blue Angels cut the deficit to one at 8-7. From there, NYU rattled off seven-straight points to take a decisive lead and never look back. The Violets scored the last four points of the set to win it 25-11, closing it out on a kill from Gretchen Kincade.

NYU once again jumped out out to a quick lead in the second frame, scoring 10 of the first 12 points. The lead extended to as many as 10 before the Violets pulled out the set, 25-18, on a kill by Nazzerine Waldon.

Set number three was much tighter as NYU gave up the first three points and trailed for the first time all evening. The Blue Angels led by two late at 22-20, but the Violets rallied and took a 24-23 lead before a New Rochelle point tied the frame at 24 apiece. NYU answered with the final two points to win the set and clinch the match on a service ace from Kate Glavan.

Waldon led the Violets with 12 kills, while Abby Ausmus chipped in with 10 to go along with five blocks. Ausmus' 10 kills came on just 13 attempts and with just one error (.692). Stella Alverson led the match with 24 assists, as Katie Goyette dished out 11 of her own.

The Violets return to action on Friday when they travel to Aston, PA, for a pair of matches. NYU is slated to take on Moravian College at 6pm and Widener University at 8pm.
