The New York University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at host Manhattanville College on Wednesday, April 11, in Purchase, NY. NYU won game one 5-2, before falling 14-6 in the nitecap.
After Wednesday's two games, the Violets record stands at 11-9, while Manhattanville is now 11-11.
GAME ONE RECAP:
Karissa Zubulake pitched all seven innings and allowed just two runs to improve to 3-1 on the mound this season. Zubulake scattered eight hits and walked a pair, while striking out five in her fourth complete game of the season.
Offensively,
Jacqueline Finn lead the way for NYU with three hits including a three-run home run that broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning.
Caroline Saccacio also had three hits for the Violets, who out-hit the Valients 11-8 in the victory.
GAME TWO RECAP:
Manhattanville scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first, but NYU quickly answered with a four-run second inning to take a 4-2 lead.
From there, it was all Manhattanville as the hosts scored six times in the third to retake the lead and followed it up with a five-run fifth to break the game open and win by the mercy rule.
Claire Stefanelli was NYU's top hitter in game two, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBI. Seven other Violets tallied at least one hit in the loss

NYU returns to action on Friday when it hosts Case Western Reserve University in a doubleheader that is set to begin at 4:00pm at Bahoshy Field in The Bronx. Friday's twin-bill marks the first two of four University Athletic Association (UAA) games the Spartans and Violets will play this weekend.
