Men's Volleyball Wins Home Finale

Violets Defeat Hunter College in Four Sets

The New York University men's volleyball team played its final home match of the season and defeated Hunter College in four sets at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility on Tuesday, March 20.

The Violets are now 11-7 this season, while the Hawks fell to 13-7.

In a tight first set, Hunter took the early lead before NYU managed a 13-12 advantage. The Hawks went on to take a four-point lead at 22-18, but the Violets scored the next six points to gain set point. However, they did not score again as Hunter responded with a 4-0 run to take the opening set 26-24.

The second set followed a different script, as NYU raced out to a 4-1 lead and was never caught. The advantage increased to nine points on several occasions, with the final one coming on Evan Lindley's kill as the Violets took the second set 25-16.

It was more of the same in set three, as the hosts scored the first two points and never trailed. Leading just 4-3, the Violets scored eight straight points and never led by less than seven the rest of the way in crusing to the 25-14 win.

NYU kept things rolling in the final set, again taking an early lead and never relinquishing it. Ahead by only two at 16-14, the Violets squashed any attempt of a Hunter comeback by scoring the next four points and going on to the 25-16 match-clinching win.

"We played very aggressively tonight," said Head Coach Jose Pina. "After losing a close first set, the guys really picked it up and were extremely efficient. We were too tentative in the first set. But, we pulled it together and had a good ending to our final home match of the season."

NET NUMBERS:

- Alex Li and Neil Ferraro were very efficient at the net for the Violets. Li had 15 kills and hit .444, while Ferraro recorded 14 kills and attacked at a .458 percentage.

- Connor Keowen chipped in with a match-high 13 digs.

- Matin Bikdeli recorded a match-high 44 assists.

The Violets are on the road and compete at the Ramapo Tri-Meet in Mahwah, NJ, this Saturday, March 24. NYU faces New Jersey City University at 6:30pm and host Ramapo College at 8:30pm.
