Men's Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep

Violets Defeat Bard in Straight Sets

The New York University men's volleyball team completed a weekend sweep of its United Volleyball Conference (UVC) opponents by defeating Bard College in straight sets on Sunday, March 11, at NYU's Brooklyn Athletic Facility in Brooklyn, NY.

After defeating Elmira College in three sets on Saturday, the Violets repeated the performance on Sunday with a 25-12, 25-15, 25-8 win over Bard.

NYU, currently ranked #8 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), boosted its overall record to 9-6 and its UVC mark to 2-3 following the victory. Bard is now 1-15, 0-5.

It was a dominant performance by the home team, who never trailed in the first and third sets and by only two points in the middle one.

In set one, the Violets scored the first two points and ended it on an 8-2 run

In the second set, NYU fell behind by two points early. Trailing 8-6, the Violets scored the next four points and never trailed again. After going ahead 12-10, NYU scored six consecutive points to establish a comfortable margin en route to the 10-point win.

In the final set, the Violets scored the first two points and the last eight points to complete the sweep. The match ended on an ace by Evan Lindley, one of his match-high four in the contest.

"It was a real good performance against a team that plays an unorthodox style," said Head Coach Jose Pina. "So when you play a team with a different type of offense you have to concentrate and not let outside influences come into play."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

- Jaime Rivera recorded a match-high 28 assists.

- Neil Ferraro led the way with 10 kills while Lindley added eight. Ferraro had only one error and hit .692.

- Lindley added a team-high nine digs.

The Violets will be back in action next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, March 17-18, to compete in another UVC Crossover in Albany, NY. NYU faces New Paltz on Saturday at 3:30 pm and host The Sage Colleges at 12 noon on Sunday.
