Violets Defeat Marywood 100-64

The New York University women's basketball team opened up postseason play with a 100-64 victory over host Marywood University in the first round of the 2018 Division III Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship.

With the win, top-seeded NYU (16-10) moves on to the quarterfinal round where it will take on #2 Saint Vincent College (19-9) on Friday at Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA. The Violets defeated fourth-seeded Marywood (15-13) in the first round of the ECAC Championship for the second-straight season, as they also Pacers, 74-49, in Brooklyn last March.

Kayla Patterson scored 20 of her game-high and career-high-tying 24 points in the first half as NYU raced out to a 59-23 lead after 20 minutes of action. The senior forward made 9-of-10 field goal attempts in the opening half as the Violets shot 24-for-32 (75.0%) as a team.

NYU's first half shooting wasn't only successful from inside the paint, as the Violets hit all seven of their three-point attempts in the first half. Kaitlyn Read made four of those triples, while backcourt mate Catherine Gould drained the other three. Read also dished out eight assists before halftime.

The Violets increased their lead to as many as 49 in the third quarter and 12 different Violets found the scoring column in the contest, including nine who tallied at least five points.

In addition to Patterson's game-high in scoring, she also grabbed a game-best six rebounds.

Erica Bistran led the Pacers with 20 points.
