Mariner Duals Complete NYU Results

The New York University wrestling team competed at the Mariner Duals, hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Sunday, December 9, in Kings Point, NY.

NYU (3-1), which was ranked #18 in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, defeated USMMA 35-15 and Nassau Community College 34-12, and fell to #15 The College of New Jersey 29-15.

"Solid day overall, especially since we are dealing with some injuries in our lineup," said Senior Assistant Coach Corey Luce. "The best part of the day was the way we preformed against Nassau, which is a top-10 junior college team."

Jack La Corte and James Murdoch highlighted the day for NYU, winning all three of their bouts at 197 pounds at 165 pounds, respectively. La Corte won via a medical forfeit, major decision and decision. Two of Murdoch's victories came by decision, with the third coming via a fall.

NYU also won all three of its 157-pound bouts on Sunday as Sean Lyons earned a pair of wins and Cole Karam picked up one, as well.

The squad will take a few weeks off for final exams and the holiday break and return to the mat on December 29 and 30, when they travel to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, for the Citrus Invitational.

"We should have a full lineup when we are down in Florida and I'm real excited to see how good we can be," concluded Luce.
