Women's Soccer Drops NCAA Tournament Match in OT

Violets Finish 2018 with a 10-6-3 Record

The New York University women's soccer team fell in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship, losing to Virginia Wesleyan University 1-0 in overtime on Saturday, November, 10, in Swarthmore, PA.

After a scoreless, 90-minute regulation, the Marlins broke through with a goal just 1:34 into the extra period.

Alex Davidson crossed a ball to the right side of the box, where Brooke Adamchak was able to corral it with her back to the goal. Adamchak then turned towards the net and fired a shot past NYU goalkeeper Meghan Marhan and into the back of the net.

The game lacked any real scoring chances until Adamchak broke through in overtime.

Marhan made four saves, while Virginia Wesleyan goalkeeper Tristen Roberts stopped all six NYU shots on target.

The Marlins out-shot the Violets 15-10, but NYU had a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.

NYU concludes its 2018 season with a 10-6-3 record after qualifying for the NCAA Championship for the third time in program history and the first since 2014. Virginia Wesleyan (12-4-4) advances to the round of 32 where they will take on host Swarthmore College, which won its first round game 5-1 against St. Joseph's (Maine) on Saturday.
