Violets Open Season with 188-112 Loss

FULL RESULTS FROM MEET VS. WEST CHESTER

The New York University women's swimming & diving team opened its 2018-19 season on Saturday, October 6, at the Palladium Athletic Facility in Manhattan and fell to Division II West Chester University 188-112.

Rachel Reistroffer provided a highlight for NYU on Saturday, winning both the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle events in her first-ever collegiate meet. The freshman finished the 500 in 5:10.11 and the 1,000 in 10:26.01.

"Rachel had a fantastic debut," said NYU Head Coach Trevor Miele. "She defeated the defending Division II NCAA Champion and record holder in the 1,000 free and then came back to prevail once again in the 500."

Carmen White was the Violets' only other winner in the season-opening meet, winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 277.42.

NYU is slated to return to action on Saturday, October 20, when it hosts Rowan University back at the Palladium pool. Diving will kick things off at 11:30am, with swimming to follow at 1pm.

"Today was a great gage to see where we are at," concluded Miele. "We have a lot of work ahead of us, but based on today's performances, we are right on track."
