The New York University men's volleyball team completed its three-match weekend road trip with a five-set victory over Emmanuel College in Boston, MA, on Sunday, January 28.
The Violets (4-2) won the first two sets by identical 25-23 scores, before dropping the third by the same score and the fourth 25-22. NYU then rallied to take the fifth set 15-10.
Trailing 8-7 in the opening set, the Violets scored the next five points and never trailed again. Their lead went as high as five points before
Evan Lindley's kill clinched the frame at 25-23.
Set two was tied 4-4 when the Violets recorded back-to-back points and were able to maintain the lead the rest of the way. NYU's advantage again grew to as many as five points, but it was once again Lindley whose kill secured the 25-23 win.
In the third set, NYU led 22-20, but Emmanuel (2-3) scored the next four points and then captured the frame, 25-23, on a NYU service error.
The Violets raced out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth set, but the hosts overcame that early deficit and managed a 14-9 lead midway through. NYU chipped away and used a 10-3 run to grab a two-point advantage, 19-17. But, with the score tied 20-20, the Saints ran off the next three points and held on for the 25-22 victory.
NYU again got out to an early three-point lead in the deciding set, and again Emmanuel made its comeback with the Saints tying the score at 7-7. Then, with the teams again deadlocked at 10-10, the Violets registered the match's last five points with
Adam Lee's kill sending everyone home.
