The New York University wrestling team traveled to Hartford, CT, on Saturday, January 27, and defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent (50-6) and host Trinity College (37-16) to improve its dual-meet record to 11-6 this season.
"We're getting healthy at the right time," said Senior Assistant Head Coach
Corey Luce. "We put one of our better lineups on the mat today and the results speak for themselves."
In its opening match vs. CMSV, NYU was led by
Matthew Coppola (149 pounds),
Raymond Jazikoff (157 pounds) and
Blaise Benderoth (165 pounds), who each won their bout via a first-period pin.
Against Trinity, Benderoth won another 165-pound bout by fall at 0:55, while
Jack La Corte (197 pounds) also won by fall at 2:23.
The grapplers return to the mat tomorrow when they travel further up the Northeast coast to Providence, RI, where they will compete in the USC Wildcat Open, hosted by Johnson & Wales University.
"Tomorrow should be much tougher," concluded Luce. "I'm excited to see how our guys do against the competition at J&W."
