Women's Volleyball Falls Twice

Violets Return to Action Wednesday at CMSV

The New York University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday, September 2, the second and final day of the Kean University Invitational, which took place in Union, NJ.

NYU (0-4) dropped its opening match of the day to Albion College (2-1) in straight sets before falling to SUNY New Paltz (2-2) in three sets, as well.

Against Albion, the Violets fell 25-16, 25-19, 25-22 and finished with a .147 attacking percentage, while their opponents were able to attack at a .233 clip. After trailing for most of the first two sets, NYU held the lead in the third set until the Britons tied the frame up at 19-19 and scored six of the final nine points to win the match 3-0.

Following an opening-set defeat against New Paltz, NYU scored the first three points of the second frame. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Hawks scored five of the next six points to take a 5-4 advantage en route to a 25-18 second set win. In the third set, the Violets broke an 11-11 tie with seven straight points, but could not close it out as New Paltz came all the way back to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

NOTABLES:

- Freshman Kate Glavan led the Violets in kills vs. Albion with 11.

- Junior Nazzerine Waldon recorded a team-best 14 digs to go along with a pair of service aces against the Britons.

- Sophomore Caroline Rapp was named to the All-Tournament Team. She led NYU against New Paltz with a team-best eight kills to go along with nine digs and three service aces. Waldon's 10 digs led the Violets.

- Junior Daryl Mitchell's four blocks vs. New Paltz were a team-best.

The Violets will be back on the court on Wednesday, September 6, when they travel to Riverdale, NY, to take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent. First serve against the Dolphins is set for 6:00pm.
