The New York University men's volleyball team fell in three sets to Kean University on day two of the Morgan Classic hosted by Springfield College in Springfield, MA, on Saturday, February 4.
Ranked #6 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 15 Poll, the Violets (4-3) fell to the #8 Cougars (8-3) in straight sets (25-20, 32-30, 25-17).
"It was a tough weekend for us," said Head Coach
Jose Pina. "I was happy with the effort tonight, the team did play hard."
The Cougars scored the first two points of the match and jumped out to leads of 5-2 and 13-9 before NYU rallied to tie the opening set at 18. Kean scored seven of the final nine points, however, to take a 1-0 led into the second set.
Set number two was a marathon as both teams had chances to close it before Kean eventually pulled out the 32-30 win. The Violets and Cougars each fought off three set point opportunities before an NYU attack error ended the set.
Kean took the momentum into the third set and scored five of the first seven points. NYU cut the Cougars' lead to 15-13, but would get no closer as a late Kean run gave them a 25-17 set victory and a three-set sweep in the match.
Notables:
-
