The New York University men's soccer team dropped its regular-season finale 1-0 to host Brandeis University on Saturday, November 4, in Waltham, MA.
Brandeis, which entered the game ranked #21 in the United Soccer Coaches poll, improved to 13-4-0 overall and 5-2 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while the Violets finished the regular season 8-7-1 and 0-6-1 in UAA action.
Andrew Allen scored the game's only goal early in the second half (46:45) to give the Judges the victory. Allen was able to get in past the Violets' defense and enter the box on a fast break before beating NYU goalkeeper
Grant Engel.
Engel made five saves to keep the Violets in the game, while Brandeis goalkeeper Greg Irwin saved both of NYU's shots on goal.
The Judges doubled the Violets in shot attempts (16-8) and tripled NYU in shots on goal (6-2). Allen led all players with four shots on goal, while
Nic Notaro took a pair to lead the Violets.
NYU will now wait and see if it has been selected for postseason play. The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament field is scheduled to be announced on Monday afternoon.
