Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Defeated by William Smith

Read and Patterson Named to All-Classic Team

The New York University women's basketball team was defeated 73-64 by visiting William Smith College on Sunday, November 19 at the Sportsplex in Manhattan. The contest was part of the two-day NYU Tip-Off Classic.

With the game tied at 37-37 midway through the third quarter, William Smith (2-0) scored 11 unanswered poins and NYU (2-1) was never able to dig out of the hole.

The Herons extended their lead to as many as 18, 62-44, with 6:19 remaining in the fourth quarter. NYU fought hard from there and cut the margin to as little as five when Annie Barrett drained a three-pointer with 2:24 left to play. William Smith didn't let the Violets get any closer, however, and hit crucial free throws late to win their second game in as many days.

Kaitlyn Read scored a game-high 24 points in 38 minutes of action, while Kayla Patterson chipped in with 16 points.

Natalia Baum scored 20 to lead the Herons. She was joined in double figures by Mia Morrison (11 points, 10 rebounds) and Emma Gallagher (10 points).

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

- NYU outscored William Smith 30-26 in the paint.

- Shaye McGoey and Barrett filled the stat sheet for the Violets. McGoey tallied six points, six assists and five rebounds, while Barrett scored eight points, dished out four assists, grabbed four rebounds, and added four steals.

- Barrett and Read each hit two three-pointers.

- Read and Patterson were named to the All-Classic Team along with Baum and Mia Morrison of William Smith and Raquel Pederzani of Johnson & Wales University.

NYU returns to the court next Saturday, November 25, when it hits the road for the first time this season to take on John Jay College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
