Men's Basketball Defeated in Tip-Off Tournament Final

Violets Fall to Haverford 93-83

The New York University men's basketball team was defeated 93-83 by Haverford College in the championship of the NYU Tip-Off Tournament on Sunday, November 19, at the Sportsplex in Manhattan.

Haverford (2-0) scored the final four points of the first half and opened the second half on an 8-1 to turn a four-point deficit into a seven-point lead. NYU (1-1) closed the gap to one after a three-pointer from Ethan Feldman with 13:25 remaining, but the Fords scored the next 11 points to take control of the game.

The Fords led by at least eight points the rest of the way, with their largest lead being 15 with 3:43 on the clock.

NYU appeared to be in control early as it led by seven, 16-9, just over five minutes into the contest. Haverford scored 11-straight, however to take a four point lead. The Violets took back the lead late in the half, but the Fords scored four points in the final 15 seconds of the frame to tie it as the teams headed into the locker rooms for halftime.

Feldman led the Violets in scoring for the second-consecutive day, tallying 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting.

Kahil Barnes, who was named the Tournament's MVP, scored 20 to lead five Fords' players in double figures.

FYI:

- Jimmy Martinelli (17 points), Ross Udine (16 points) and Dom Cristiano (12 points) joined Feldman as double-digit scorers for NYU.

- Martinelli came just shy of a double-double, grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Cristiano also had a solid game on the glass as he took down eight boards.

- Udine , who became NYU's all-time assist leader in Saturday's season-opening win, dished out seven more on Sunday.

- The All-Tournament Team consisted of Feldman and Udine from NYU, Joe Scibelli (Haverford), Tyler Davern (Clark University) and Ammad Alkhulaidi (College of Mount Saint Vincent).

The Violets will return to action on Saturday, November 25, when it travels to take on the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Tip-off is slated for 1pm.
