Wrestling Dominates at NY/PA Duals

Grapplers Win First Three Dual Meets of 2017-18

COMPLETE RESULTS

The New York University wrestling team opened up the dual portion of its schedule with victories in all three matches at the New York vs. Pennsylvania Duals, which were hosted by Wilkes University on Saturday, November 11, in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

NYU outscored its competition 129-18 on the afternoon. The squad opened the day with an 43-6 win over King's College, before defeating the host Colonels 34-6 and the Pennsylvania College of Technology 52-6. A contingent of grapplers also competed in several exhibition bouts over the course of the afternoon.

"I'm happy with the start we've had this season," said Senior Assistant Head Coach Corey Luce. "We have a real young team. Our lineup today only featured one upperclassman and we still produced great results."

Seven different wrestlers went 3-0 in the dual meet for NYU, with Matt Noble (133 pounds) once again leading the way with three wins via fall. Landon McBride (125 pounds), Evan Drill (149 pounds), Raymond Jazikoff (157 pounds), Maykel Dolorit (174 pounds), Jackson Kligerman (184 pounds), and Jack La Corte (197 pounds) all went 3-0, as well.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

- All of Noble's wins by fall occurred in the first period. He is now 7-0 this season with seven first-period pins.

- Each of La Corte's wins were bonus-point victories. The sophomore won via fall, technical fall and major decision.

- James Murdoch (165 pounds) went 2-1 on the day, recording both of his wins by pin.

- Ian Burke went 2-0 in exhibition bouts at 149 pounds, while Austin Day went 2-1 at 133 pounds.

"We're going to keep training hard and looking to improve," added Luce. "We have a lot of depth this year, so everyone has to bring their best every day."

The grapplers return to action next Sunday, November 19, at the New York State Championships, which is hosted each season by Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
