The New York University women's volleyball team dropped two University Athletic Association (UAA) matches as they began play at the second UAA Round Robin, which is being held at the University of Chicago on Saturday and Sunday, October 14 and 15.
The Violets fell in three sets to the University of Rochester 25-16, 25-19, 25-21, before dropping another straight-set match to the host Maroons 25-7, 25-9, 25-16. NYU is now 4-18 on the season and winless through five UAA matches, while Rochester improved to 12-7 overall and 2-2 in UAA action. The Maroons are 18-3 and unbeaten through four UAA contests.
Against Rochester, the Violets held the Yellowjackets below a .200 attacking percentage (.192), but only attacked at a .112 clip themselves. The third set was the closest as the NYU battled back from an early six-point deficit to close within two at 20-18. But, the squad couldn't close the gap any further, ultimately falling 25-21 in the set and 3-0 in the match.
Chicago controlled the Violets' second match from the beginning, more than doubling NYU in kills 33-16 and serving up 13 aces to the Violets' two. The Maroons jumped out to large early leads in each set (8-1, 8-0 and 6-1) and never looked back to defend their home court and remain unbeaten in Association play.
