Women's Volleyball Wins Two More at Ducks Classic

Violets Defeat Hartwick and Oswego in Straight Sets

The New York University volleyball team won a pair of matches on Saturday, September 16, on day two of the Ducks Invitational hosted by the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. NYU first defeated Hartwick College in straight sets and later took down the State University of New York at Oswego in three sets, as well.

NYU is now 9-3 on the season and has won nine of its last 10 matches.

"We're getting in a groove, that's for sure," said NYU Head Coach Jolie Ward. "We did a great job today of finding ways to score in uncomfortable situations."

NYU dominated its opening match of the day against Hartwick College, rolling to a three-set sweep. The Violets scored the first five points of the match to set the tone and completed the sweep 25-13, 25-14, 25-17.

In its second match of the day, NYU won its seventh straight-set match of the season, defeating SUNY Oswego 25-21, 25-22, 25-17. The first two sets were close before the Violets pulled away at the end. In the final set, it was a 7-0 early run that put NYU ahead for good and the Violets were able to maintain their lead.

Inside the Box Score (Hartwick):

- Annie Singh (12) and Shelby King (10) both recorded double-digit kills for NYU. Singh (.421, 19 attempts) and Gretchen Cash (.500, 12 attempts) both were very efficient up front for NYU.

"Annie had a fantastic weekend for us," explained Ward.

- Daryl Mitchell handled the setting duties for the Violets and dished out a match-best 25 assists.

- NYU totaled 13 service aces in the win, with Singh leading the way (six).

Inside the Box Score (SUNY Oswego):

- Jenna Dickey led the Violets in kills for the first time this season, finishing with 12.

- Mitchell once again led the squad in assists, recording 38 helpers in the win.

- Dickey finished with four blocks to lead NYU, while Ellis added three.

"Our chemistry is in a good spot right now," added Ward. "We need to keep it there and continue to feed off of one another."

The Violets will look to continue their winning streak Tuesday night when they travel to Patchogue, NY, to take on St. Joseph's College -- Long Island. First serve is set for 7:00pm.
