The New York University women's soccer team defeated host St. Joseph's-Long Island, 3-0, in its season opener on Thursday, September 1, in Patchogue, NY.
NYU (1-0) got on the scoreboard just before halftime (44:59) when senior Lexie Clarke scored on a free kick.
Junior
Marquel Love, making her NYU debut, scored goals in the 73rd and 75th minute to add insurance to the Violet lead in the second half.
The NYU defense was solid throughout, not allowing a shot to get to senior goalkeeper
Cassie Steinberg, who recorded her first shutout of the season.
"I thought we played well. It's a good start to the season for us," said Head Coach Michelle Canning. "We scored three quality goals. We're looking forward to getting back out there Saturday."

The Violets will be back in action Saturday when they host Vassar College in their home opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30pm at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
