The New York University men's volleyball team pulled out a five-set victory on the road at Ramapo College on Tuesday, April 5, in Mahwah, NJ.
The Violets (14-13), currently ranked #12 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), came from behind to defeat the Roadrunners (18-14) by scores of 27-25, 26-28, 22-25, 25-22, 15-11.
The teams split he first two sets, with both going to extra points. NYU then fell behind 2-1 in sets before rallying to take a tight fourth and the deciding fifth.
"This was a hard-fought victory," said Head Coach
Jose Pina. "Our guys were a bit tense during most of the match, but responded well from halfway through game four through the end of the match."
Phil Bueno and
Nick Benson each recorded double-digit kills, putting down 17 and 16 respectively.
Benjamin Oxnard led the way with 14 digs, while
Derrick Chiu posted a team-high 43 assists.
HIGHLIGHTS:-
Chase Corbett contributed nine kills and four blocks.

Jake Getz each had two service aces.
"Ramapo out-hit us, but we served and blocked better," Pina added. "Our seniors,
Phil Bueno and
Colin LaPorte, had good hitting matches."
The Violets return to action at the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Championship, hosted by SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, NY. NYU, seeded #3, will face #6 Vassar College in an opening-round match on Friday, April 8, at 7:30 pm.
