Softball Splits CSI Doubleheader

Staten Island, NYU Shut Each Other Out

The New York University softball team split a pair of road games against the College of Staten Island on Friday, April 22, at the CSI Softball Complex in Staten Island, NY.

In game one, the Violets dropped a tight 2-0 result, with the only runs of the game coming on a third-inning two-run home run by Jacqueline Cautela, who also threw a complete-game shutout for Staten Island.

"Our hits were sporatic this game," explained Head Coach Now-Allah James. "The pitcher was good, but we just needed to string together a couple of hits and we were unable to do so."

Cassi Parulis started on the mound and tossed 4.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out two.

NYU fared much better in game two, as Diana King pitched a complete-game one-hit shutout while striking out six in a 7-0 Violet victory.

The squad jumped ahead early and gradually, plating two runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth. Only one of the Violets' runs was earned. The big blows were a Kahala Bonsignore 2-RBI single in the second and a Claire Stefanelli 2-run double in the fourth.

"They really showed their fight this game," continued James. "They came out strong in the second game and battled back from adversity."

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:

- Ashley Mains was 2-for-3 with a double.

- Bonsignore was 1-for-3 with a double.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS:

- Stefanelli was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, one run, and a double.

- Bonsignore was 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs and one run scored.

- King was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

- Marissa Bella was 2-for-4.

The Violets return to action on Saturday, when they will meet SUNY-Old Westbury for a doubleheader at the Bahoshy Softball Complex in the Bronx, NY, starting at 4:00 pm.
