The New York University men's volleyball team, ranked #15 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), picked up a four-set victory (25-16, 20-25, 25-23, 25-20) on the road over #10 Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday, March 13, in Milwaukee, WI.
The Violets (10-10) controlled the net against MSOE (13-6) and held a 14-4 advantage in blocks. Individually,
Chase Klein (15 kills),
Colin LaPorte (13 kills) and
Nick Benson (12 kills) led the way offensively for NYU.
Patrick Merrick started at the primary setter spot for the Violets, as well, and dished out 45 helpers.
"It was a very good bounce-back win for the team," said NYU Head Coach
Jose Pina. "We served very well and played really good defense, both blocking and digging. Out hitters had strong attacking performances and our middles blocked really well, which allowed Ben, Pat and our back defenders to get a lot of digs."
HIGHLIGHTS:- Klein added two assisted blocks and five digs. He hit .367 on 30 swings with just four errors.
- LaPorte and Benson each registered double-doubles with 10 digs apiece. Both players also had two total blocks.
-
Sean Leahy finished with seven total blocks, five kills and three digs.
-
Chase Corbett added five total blocks.
- Merrick also had a double-double. The junior notched 12 digs and added five total blocks.
-
Benjamin Oxnard finished with 13 digs.
The Violets will return to the court when they close out their Midwest road-trip on Tuesday night, March 15. NYU will face #13 Dominican University in River Forest, IL, with first serve scheduled for 7:00 pm (CST).
