Softball Defeated by Greensboro College

Violets Fall 4-2 in North Carolina

The New York University softball team (0-2) fell to the Greensboro College Pride (4-2) 4-2 on Saturday, February 27, in Cary, NC, at the Triangle Grand Slam Classic.

Freshman Diana King (0-1) made her collegiate pitching debut as she took the mound for the Violets, pitching 5.0 innings with three strikeouts.

NYU came out swinging and took the lead in the bottom of the third when freshman catcher Carina Sturm walked, stole second and scored on a RBI double from King.

Then, heading into the bottom of the fourth trailing 2-1, sophomore Sage Scheiwiller led off the inning with a single and was eventiually brought home on a RBI single from freshman Claire Stefanelli.

The Violets did not score again, however.

"We played extremely well defensively," said Head Coach Now-Allah James. "We struggled a bit offensively today, and that is what we will look to improve on from today to tomorrow."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sturm also recorded a hit.

- Senior Kahala Bonsignore had five assists at shortstop and recorded her first hit of the season.

The Violets return to the field tomorrow as they continue their play at the Triangle Grand Slam Classic. They'll face North Carolina Wesleyan College with first pitch scheduled for 10:00 am in Raleigh, NC.
