The New York University men's volleyball team, ranked #12 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), picked up its seventh victory of the season on Thursday night, February 25, in straight sets over New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ.
The Violets (7-6) improved each set against the Gothic Knights (8-9), winning in three (25-21, 25-15, 25-10).
"It was a comfortable win with a total team effort tonight," said NYU Head Coach
Jose Pina. "We were able to play most of the roster and all the guys performed well."
Chase Klein led all players with 10 kills. The junior outside hitter had 16 attempts with just one error to hit .563 percent. Opposites
Colin LaPorte and
Will Kozloski also had very efficient days for the Violets. A senior, LaPorte finished with five kills on seven swings and no errors (.714 hitting percentage), while Kozloski, a junior, hit .545 percent (six kills, no errors, 11 swings).
As a team, the Violets were extremely efficient. NYU hit .443 percent (38 kills, seven errors, 70 attempts), compared to NJCU's .028 percent.
HIGHLIGHTS:-
Benjamin Oxnard led all players with nine digs.
- Kozloski and
Patrick Merrick each had five digs. Merrick led all players with 15 assists, as well.
Derrick Chiu also chipped in 12 assists.
NYU will return to action next Wednesday, March 2, when it hosts #6 Stevens Institute of Technology in a non-conference match at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility. First-serve in Brooklyn, NY, is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
