The New York University men's volleyball team, ranked #8 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), suffered a three-set loss (25-16, 25-19, 25-21) on the road to Kean University on Wednesday night, February 10, in Union, NJ.
"It was a strong match by Kean," said NYU Head Coach
Jose Pina. "Their passing was excellent and we had a tough time with their middle attack."
The Violets (3-5) entered the night a bit shorthanded, as several key contributors had recently come down with flu-like symptoms, and the hosting Cougars (7-5) took advantage of the road squad.
NYU did not hold a lead at any point in the first two sets. The Violets came back strong in the third and jumped out to a 16-11 lead before Kean was forced to call a timeout. The Cougars regrouped to take the final set.
Nick Benson led the Violets with team highs in kills (12) and digs (6). The senior co-captain registered a .269 hitting percentage on 26 attempts.
"Benson had a strong match and has continued to perform really well this season," said Pina.
HIGHLIGHTS:-
Chase Klein finished with seven kills and three digs.

Derrick Chiu led NYU with 29 assists.
