The New York University men's basketball team fell to visiting Framingham State University 65-59 on the opening day of the 2016 NYU Holiday Classic at the Sportsplex on Thursday, December 29.
NYU (5-3) shot a season-low 30.8% (20-65) from the field and was 29.2% (7-24) from three-point range.
"We got good shots, but we just didn't make them tonight," said NYU Assistant Coach
Taylor Roth. "When you play a team like Framingham that slows the game down, poor shooting can really do you in.
The Violets trailed the Rams (3-8) by four at halftime and by as many as nine with 2:43 remaining in the contest. NYU cut the lead to two on a deep three-pointer from
Ross Udine with 26 seconds to play, but the hosts could not get any closer, ultimately falling by six.
Wesley Ogbevoen came off the bench to lead the Rams with 17 points. Ogbevoen was one of four Farmingdale players in double figures.
HIGHLIGHTS:
-
Joe Timmes recorded a double-double in the loss, tallying 16 points to go along with 10 rebounds .
-
Cameron Moore scored a career-high 16 points for NYU.
- Udine joined Timmes and Moore in double figures, scoring 11.
- NYU committed just 10 turnovers, its second-fewest giveaways this season.
"The best part about these tournaments is you get to come back out the next day," concluded Roth. "We're going to come out ready tomorrow."
NYU will return to action tomorrow when it closes out play at the Holiday Classic with a 9pm contest against Farmingdale State College.
