Violets Drop Four-Set UAA Match

The New York University women's volleyball team concluded play at the first University Athletic Association round robin event, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University in Skibo Gymnasium on Sunday, October 2.

NYU took on the University of Rochester Sunday morning, falling to the Yellowjackets in four sets. For the second consecutive day, the Violets won their first set, but could not hold on. NYU dropped to 13-6 overall and 0-3 in UAA play, while Rochester improved to 13-6 on the season and 2-1 in Association play.

The Violets took the first set 25-21 after jumping out to leads of 10-6 and 16-11. In the second set, NYU once again took an early lead, scoring the first six points of the frame. The Yellowjackets came back, however, and earned a 25-19 victory to even the match at one set apiece.

UR carried its momentum into the third set where it scored nine of the first 10 points en route to a 25-18 win. The fourth set saw Rochester score six of the first seven points and the final five points to win 25-8 and clinch its second UAA win of the season.

NYU HIGHLIGHTS:

- Shelby King recorded a match-high 15 kills.

- Rayne Ellis posted a season-best seven total blocks, including three solo, to lead all players.

- Zel Fortson dished out 30 assists, a new season-high for the freshman.
