Women's Soccer Falls at Vassar 2-1 in 2OT

Violets Drop First Road Contest of Season

The New York University women's soccer team was defeated 2-1 in double-overtime by Vassar College on Saturday afternoon, September 5, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The loss was the first of the season for the Violets (1-1), as well as the first victory of 2015 for the Brewers (1-1).

Vassar kicked off the scoring in the 35th minute when Audrey Pillsbury chipped in a misdirected ball in the box past NYU goalkeeper Cassie Steinberg.

Early in the second half, Megan Carver put NYU on the board with her first collegiate goal. It came on an unassisted breakaway in the 52nd minute anf knotted the score 1-1.

The two squads held the stalemate for the next 54:35 until Rebecca Andrews gave Vassar the win with a golden goal during the second overtime period in the 106th minute.

"Our performance in the second half was disappointing and we shouldn't have given up that last goal," said NYU Head Coach Michele Canning. "We're looking forward to getting back on the practice field this week and bouncing back in Hoboken next weekend."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- NYU outshot the Brewers 18-11, including 6-3 in shots on goal.

- Lexi Clarke led all players with seven total shots, while Carver was second with four, including two on goal.

- Vassar goalkeeper Emma Nichols notched five saves. Steinberg had one.

The Violets return to the pitch on Saturday, September 12, when they face Whitman College at 3:30 pm in the Stevens Engineering Cup, hosted by the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. NYU will then face the host Ducks on Sunday, September 13, at 3:30 pm.
