The New York University men's soccer team, playing its first game under new Head Coach
Kim Wyant, dropped a 3-1 decision to Manhattanville College on Saturday, September 5, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.
The loss was the first of the season for NYU (1-1), which had won its home opener 2-1 over Hunter College on Tuesday night.
The Valiants (1-1) used a goal by Omar Parra at the 14:30 mark to begin their scoring.
The game remained 1-0 until Manhattanville scored again at 72:16 on a goal by Robin Schaufele. They scored again for the final time on another goal by Parra. at 82:49.
NYU avoided the shutout when
Bryan Walsh tallied a goal with less than two minutes to play (88:26) on an assist from
Malcolm Montilus.
"The guys played hard considering the circumstances of the last couple of days," said Wyant, who officially became the team's Head Coach on Friday following the resignation of long-time Head Coach
Joe Behan on Thursday. "I'm pleased they came out with the right attitude given the situation."

Petter Aasa led the Violets with five shots, as NYU outshot Manhattanville 15-13.

Lucas Doucette recorded three saves for NYU.
- Schaufele added two assists for the Valiants.
"We're obviously disappointed with the outcome," Wyant added. "We made some unfortunate mistakes that they were able to capitalize on. But, we'll go back to work and try to correct those things."
The Violets get their next opportunity this Wednesday, September 9, when they host CCNY at Gaelic Park at 7:00 pm.
