The New York University men's soccer team was defeated 4-1 on the road by the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday night, September 22, in Kings Point, NY.
The Violets (3-4) started off the contest strong, getting a goal from
Ricardo Mitrano in the 30th minute, and held their 1-0 advantage until the break. Unfortunately, the Mariners (6-2) scored all four of their goals in the second half to come away with the victory.
"We played very well in the first half," said NYU Head Coach
Kim Wyant. "We didn't match their work rate and intensity in the second half, which proved to be critical. Merchant Marine grabbed the game and didn't let go from the moment they scored the equalizer."
USMMA scored its first goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the 50th minute, followed by another in the 72nd to take the 2-1 lead. Dan Weldon of the Mariners scored the game's final two goals in the 75th and 82nd minutes to close out the Violets.

Robert Shellow, was the first of his collegiate career.
