Women's Volleyball Sweeps at Hawks Invitational

Violets Defeat Both Opponents on Saturday

The New York University women's volleyball team finished the second day of the Hawks Invitational with a pair of wins on Saturday, September 12, in New Paltz, NY.

The Violets (5-5) began with a three-set sweep (25-20, 25-20, 25-21) of The Sage Colleges Gators (4-3).

NYU maintained the advantage for the majority of the match, led by the consistency of Nicole Frias who finished the contest with 11 kills and no errors. She was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

"Nicole Frias had a great weekend," Head Coach Jolie Ward said. "She showed true leadership in crucial points of every match."

Strong serving from Celine Das also helped lead the Violets to victory.

NYU's second match was a 3-1 win (25-15, 25-27, 25-22, 25-20) over the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (0-8).

A 9-0 streak sparked the Violets to victory in the first set. A strong front-row presence was produced by Olivia Giddens, who totaled a career-best six kills in the match.

NYU came from behind in the third set, making a late-game push with a 10-0 streak led by serves from Shelby King.

Alexis Jackson took control of the fourth set and finished the match with 10 kills to help secure the victory.

"As a team, we did a good job of adapting our game plan for each of the teams we faced, and were able to strategically adjust to what was coming our way," Ward explained.

- Das contributed four aces.

- Brooke Tannahill led the team with seven digs
