The New York University baseball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Lehman College on Saturday, May 2, in the Bronx. NYU dropped the first game 5-4 before falling 10-5 in game two.
The Violets have now concluded its first Division III varsity regular season with a 21-23 record.
Although the games were played at Lehman, they were played as if the Violets were the home squad.
"We obviously aren't happy with today's results," said Head Coach Doug Kimbler. "After a few weeks of showing some maturity, today we played like we did earlier in the season and found ways to lose."Cameron Serapilio-Frank started game one for NYU and pitched well, scattering six hits over his 6.1 innings of work.
After Lehman (14-12) scored the first two runs of the game, the Violets battled back to take a 3-2 lead into the final inning of the contest. Two of those runs came in the bottom of the sixth when
Adrian Spitz laced a two-out, two-RBI double down the left field line to give NYU its first lead of the game.
Lehman rallied to score three in the top of the seventh, however, and then shut down the Violets in the home half of the inning to clinch the 5-4 victory.
NYU scored the first three runs of game two, but Lehman tallied two in the fourth inning and four in the fifth inning to take a lead it would never relinquish.
Billy Griffo and
CJ Picerni each hit home runs in the game for the Violets. But, the Lightning offense proved to be too strong as Lehman prevailed 10-5 to complete the sweep.
