The New York University baseball team dropped an 8-5 non-conference contest at Ursinus College on Monday, April 27, in Collegeville, PA.
Ursinus (18-15) scored the first five runs of the game in the bottom of the second inning and the Violets (19-21) never recovered.
NYU closed the margin to 5-2 with two runs in the top of the fourth on RBIs from
Chase Denison and
reigning UAA Athlete of the Week Billy Griffo. The Bears answered, however, with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-2 lead after four innings.
The Violets did not go down without a fight, as the squad added a run in the fifth and two more in the eighth to close within 8-5. The fifth-inning run came on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
CJ Picerni, his team-best 34th RBI of the season.
Griffo's triple produced a run in the eighth and Denison singled him home, but that was as close as the Violets would get.
Marshall Kramsky and
Michael Anastasiou combined to throw four shutout innings out of the bullpen for NYU.
"We didn't play a clean game today," said NYU Head Coach Doug Kimbler. "We need to keep concentrating on the little things."NOTABLES:- Kramsky had his best effort of the season on the mound, allowing just one hit over three innings of work.

Sy Cohen led NYU with three hits on the afternoon.
