The New York University men's volleyball team defeated Elmira College in straight sets on Friday, April 10, in the quarterfinals of the United Volleyball Conference (UVC) Championship. The tournament is being hosted from Friday-Sunday by top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

The Violets (17-10) took the match over the Soaring Eagles (20-14) by winning all three tightly-contested matches (25-23, 27-25, 25-21).

"It was a strong all-around performance by our guys," said NYU Head Coach Jose Pina. "We were in control the whole match against a quality Elmira squad."

NYU was led offensively by Nick Benson and Colin LaPorte. The two junior outside hitters combined for 19 kills. In addition, middle hitters Chase Corbett, Phil Bueno and Sean Leahy combined for 13 total blocks, led by Leahy's match-best seven.

The Violets will look to keep their momentum going when they return to action in Hoboken tomorrow, Saturday, April 11. Fourth-seeded NYU will face #1 Stevens at 2:00 pm.

"We'll try to keep up our level of play when we get back at it tomorrow against the #1 team," continued Pina.
