The #9-ranked (American Volleyball Coaches Association) New York University men's volleyball team earned a five-set victory over host #14 Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon, February 21, in Boston, MA.
NYU (6-3) battled back after losing the first and third sets en route to a 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 28-26, 15-9 victory over the Leopards (12-3).
The Violets trailed in the second set 17-15 before ending on a 10-5 run to secure the win and even the match up at one set each.
After dropping the third set, NYU was able to overcome a 23-20 deficit in the fouth by scoring eight of the set's final 11 points to avoid elimination.
The match-deciding fifth set was tied at seven before a
Nick Benson kill put the Violets ahead for good. NYU outscored Wentworth 7-2 down the stretch to secure the victory.
"This was an excellent win against a very good Wentworth team," said NYU Head Coach
Jose Pina.
HIGHLIGHTS:- Benson had an impressive afternoon for NYU with a team-high 18 kills to go along with six digs.

Andrew Quirk had a match-high 12 digs for the Violets. The senior captain also added three assists.

Patrick Merrick finished with a match-best 45 assists to help lead NYU to the victory.
"We really dug in and played good defense in the last two sets," Pina added. "Our blocking got better as the match went on and we were able to find holes in their block."
The Violets will be back in action tomorrow, February 22, against host Emmanuel College in Boston, MA, at 12:00 pm.
