The New York University wrestling team earned Centennial Conference victories against Ursinus College and Muhlenberg College on Sunday, February 1, at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ.

NYU, ranked #24 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), first beat #23 Ursinus, 23-16, before defeating Muhlenberg, 33-12. With the wins, the grapplers remain unbeaten in Centennial Conference competition at 4-0 and improved to 14-3 overall.

"Our guys showed a lot of grit today," said Senior Assistant Coach Corey Luce. "The win against Ursinus was a total team effort as we had three guys wrestle up a weight class."

Highlights:

- Nathan Pike (133) continued his successful sophomore campaign with two victories, including a win by major decision.

- Brandon Jones (141), ranked #3 nationally by the NWCA, won both of his matches. The senior captain won by major decision against Ursinus and by fall against Muhlenberg.

- Sophomore John Messinger (165) also earned two victories on Sunday, including one by fall.

- Freshman Raymond Jazikoff (174) improved to 28-13 overall with a pair of victories.

- Junior Brian Anderson (197/HWT) bumped up to heavyweight and won by fall against Ursinus, before returning to his normal weight class to earn a victory against Muhlenberg.

"We are in the middle of a tough stretch," continued Luce. "Eight matches in seven days is tough for any team. But, I am proud of our guys and they way they are wrestling."

NYU will be back in action Wednesday, February 4, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan for two home matches against another pair of conference foes. The squad will first wrestle the United States Merchant Marine Academy at 7:00 pm, before competing against the Stevens Institute of Technology at 8:30 pm. Live video will be available.
