The New York University men's basketball team was defeated 64-60 by the University of Rochester on Friday night, January 30, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
The Violets (12-5, 3-3 University Athletic Association) led the Yellowjackets (6-11, 2-4 UAA) 5-4 with just under three minutes gone in the first half, but found themselves trailing through the break. Rochester went into the locker room holding a 37-29 lead.
NYU outscored the Yellowjackets 31-27 in the second, fueled by a 12-0 run at the beginning of the half following a Rochester three.
Patrick Burns sank a free throw at the 18:21 mark to kick off teh streak and
Evan Kupferberg's layup with 14:58 left completed the run.
The squads traded the lead back and forth in the second half, but the Violets' biggest play came with 5:59 remaining.
Hakeem Harris, who finished with nine points, sank the long range basket with a hand in his face to give NYU a 52-51 lead at the time.
Despite the Violets' best efforts, Rochester's Sam Borst-Smith's game-best 25 points led the Yellowjackets to the upset victory over #23 (

HIGHLIGHTS:-
Ross Udine led the Violets with a career-high-tying 16 points. He also chipped in four assists, four rebounds and three steals.
- Kupferberg finished with 15 points and a game-best 12 rebounds for his ninth double-double of the season.
- Burns chipped in 11 points and nine rebounds for NYU.
