Women's Soccer Wins Fourth Straight, Tops Farmingdale 2-0

The New York University women's soccer team defeated Farmingdale State College 2-0 on Monday night, September 29, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

The Violets (6-3) were once again led by co-captains Cami Crawford and Melissa Menta, as the duo combined for four points in the victory. Crawford scored the game's first goal to put NYU up 1-0 over the Rams (6-3-2) in the 49th minute. Amy Elgin followed in the 85th minute for the Violets, scoring her first-career goal and giving NYU the 2-0 lead. Menta assisted on both scores.

"I think that early in the season we spent a lot of time trying to get the team to connect and get everyone on the same page, and now the pieces of the puzzle are starting to fit together," NYU Head Coach Michele Canning said. "People are more confident, we're playing more confident and we're getting results."

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Crawford's goal came off a pass from Lexi Clarke that was deflected in front by Menta. The ball landed by the far post where Crawford was able to put it home for her fourth of the year.

- Elgin's goal was created by nice passing from the duo of Crawford and Menta. Crawford centered the ball from the near post to Menta, who then split a pair of Farmingdale State defenders with her pass up the middle to Elgin who was able to beat the Rams' keeper for the score.

- Menta is riding a four-game point streak and has notched at least two points in all of those contests.

"This is a great game to come off of when starting University Athletic Association (UAA) play," Canning said. "We're excited to be in a good position, to be at home and to get conference play going."

NYU will return to the pitch for its UAA opener on Saturday, October 4. The Violets will host the University of Rochester at Gaelic Park for a scheduled 1:30 pm kickoff. Live stats and live video will be available.
