Women's Soccer Tops Bard 1-0 in OT

Menta's Golden Goal Pushes Violets Past Raptors

Menta scored the one and only goal in the Violets' OT win on Saturday.

The New York University women's soccer team came away with a 1-0 victory over Bard College in overtime on Saturday afternoon, September 20, in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.

The Violets (4-3) bested the Raptors (3-4-1) on the leg of co-captain Melissa Menta, whose score gave NYU the victory in the first overtime period. The goal came off a nice combination play between Menta and Lexi Clarke, who put the ball ahead to split a pair of Bard defenders at the top of the box and break Menta away for the goal.

"It's great to get the win on the road, and I think it shows progress for our team because we stuck to the game plan and were able to get the goal," NYU Head Coach Michele Canning said.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Menta finished the game with a match-high five shots and her second goal of the season.

- Clarke set up Menta, earning the assist for her first of the season. She also registered two shot attempts.

- Cassie Steinberg earned her fourth victory and second shutout of the season for the Violets.

- The Violets outshot their oppnents 17-3. None of the Bard shots landed on goal.

The Violets will return to the pitch when they travel to Center Valley, PA, to face DeSales University on Saturday, September 27. Live stats will be available.
