Women's Volleyball Team Sweeps at New Paltz Invitational

Violets Post Two Straight-Set Victories

The New York University women's volleyball team won both of its matches on the first day of competition at the New Paltz Invitational in New Paltz, NY, on Friday, September 12.
 
The Violets (7-4) beat both of thweir opponents in straight sets, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham 25-14, 25-8, 25-18, and then returning to sweep Mount St. Mary College 25-13, 25-11, 25-18..
 
Two of NYU's team leaders, Allie Williams and Emily Moore, returned to action after missing several matches due to injury.
 
"It was a nice start to the weekend," said Head Coach Ward. "It was good to see Allie and Emily back in action."
 
FDU-Florham Highlights
 
- Gigi Morally led the offense with nine kills for the Violets
 
- Katie Robinson registered a team-high 21 assists.
 
- MaTia Hughes led the back row with 15 digs
 
Mount St. Mary College Highlights
 
- Morally again led the team with seven kills
 
- Cassidy Jourdan took control of the back row for the Violets with eight digs.
 
"We had contributions from everyone tonight," Ward added, "including a solid attack from Gigi Morally and Zoe Prince."
 
The Violets return to action on Saturday with two more matches at the New Paltz Invitational. NYU faces Fredonia State University at 1pm and host New Paltz at 3pm.
