NYU 3 Hunter 0The New York University women's volleyball team defeated Hunter College in straight sets on Wednesday night, September 10, at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan as Head Coach
Jolie Ward earned her 300th-career victory.
Ward has now compiled an overall record of 300-236, while her NYU record stands at 75-43.
The Violets (5-4) defeated the Hawks (3-7) 25-13, 25-12 and 25-22.
Junior
Nicole Frias and sophomore
Josie Luck led the way for the Violets, as each came away with a match-high eight kills. Frias hit .583 and had a block, while Luck finished at .304 and had a match-high nine digs.
"It was nice to be home again in our own gym," Ward said. "We struggled a bit last weekend with some of our key players not in the lineup. Those players were still out tonight, so other players in the lineup today were able to show what they can do in order to see what we're going to do this weekend."
HIGHLIGHTS:- Junior setter
Ashley Toth finished with a match-high 15 assists to go along with five digs.
- Senior setter
Katie Robinson tallied 12 assists, as well as five digs.
- Freshman libero
Brooke Tannahill recorded a match-best five service aces in addition to six digs.
NYU will be back in action next weekend when it travels to the New Paltz Invitational in New Paltz, NY. The Violets will face FDU-Florham and Mount St. Mary College on Friday, September 12, at 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm, respectively. On Saturday, September 13, NYU matches up with Fredonia State University and host SUNY New Paltz at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, respectively.
"Next weekend is a big in-region weekend for us and we're looking forward to it," Ward said.
