NYU 58 Brooklyn 42

The New York University women's basketball team, ranked #11 and #12 nationally by D3hoops.com and USA Today Sports, respectively, defeated Brooklyn College 58-42 on the road in Brooklyn, NY, on Tuesday night, December 2.

The Violets (6-0) began the game with a 12-0 run to take  alead they would never relinquish. From there, NYU controlled the game until the end of the first half when they took a 34-14 lead into the locker room.

Despite the dominant first half for NYU, the Bulldogs (2-3) started the second on a 9-0 run to trim the Violets' lead to nine points at 34-25. Following that tough stretch, NYU was able to once again regain momentum, jumping out to a 26-point lead on one occasion and finishing with the 16-point victory.

"I think the first half tonight was really the best half we've played all-around so far this season in terms of defense, controlling the defensive boards, taking high-percentage shots, and executing our offensive gameplan," said NYU Head Coach Lauren Hall-Gregory. "I was proud of the players for how they bounced back after not starting out well in the second half. We didn't allow that 9-0 run to turn into anything more and we controlled the game on the offensive and defensive end from that point on."

Overall, NYU capitalized the most on Brooklyn's miscues. The Violets outscored the Bulldogs 30-10 in points off turnovers, forcing 21 Bulldog giveaways, including 15 NYU steals.

NYU also spread the ball around, making sure everyone was involved. In total, nine Violets contributed to the scoring effort on the night.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Megan Dawe led all players with a game-high 16 points. She added five rebounds and an assist.

- Emily Rowe pulled down a game-high-tying 10 rebounds and added 10 points for her second-career double-double.

- Amy Harioka (8) and Lindsey Oldshue (7) contributed to the scoring, as well. Harioka also registered a game-best four steals, which tied her season high.

- Kaitlyn Read led all players with a career-high-tying seven assists. She also grabbed six rebounds and notched three steals.

NYU will return to the court when it hosts Emmanuel College at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan on Saturday, December 6. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm and live stats and live video will be available.
