Women's Soccer Beats Rochester in Double OT in UAA Opener

Violets Win Fifth Straight Contest

Mckennah Spagnola and the Violets earned their seventh win of the season on Saturday.


NYU 1 Rochester 0 (2OT)

The New York University women's soccer team beat the University of Rochester 1-0  in double-overtime on Saturday, October 4, in its University Athletic Association (UAA) opener at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

With their fifith victory in a row and third home win, the Violets improved to 7-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the UAA.

Amy Elgin played hero for NYU. The freshman midfielder scored her second-career goal, and second in two games, to give the Violets the double-overtime victory in the 103rd minute. The goal came off a loose ball in front of the Rochester net.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Cassie Steinberg tied her season high with four saves for her seventh win of the season. The shutout now gives her four on the season, including two in a row and three of her last four.

- NYU outshot the Yellowjackets 12-6, including 5-4 in shots on net.

The Violets will return to the pitch on Tuesday night, October 7, when they host Brooklyn College at Gaelic Park for a scheduled 7:00 pm kickoff.
