Women's Volleyball Team Drops Two at UAA Round Robin

Violets Fall to Carnegie Mellon and Case Western

The New York University women's volleyball team lost both of its matches on the second day of University Athletic Association (UAA) Round Robin #2 in Chicago, IL, on Sunday, October 19.

The Violets (17-11, 2-5 UAA) lost in straight sets to Carnegie Mellon University (25-18, 25-17, 25-21) in their first match-up of the day, then fell to Case Western Reserve University in a much closer, four-set match (25-22, 25-18, 19-25, 25-21). 

On Saturday's first day of competition, the Violets defeated the University of Rochester and lost to Emory University.  


 
Carnegie Mellon Highlights:
 
- Katie Robinson had nine kills for the Violets.
 
Emily Moore set 19 assists for the offense.
 
- MaTia Hughes led the team with 13 digs.
 

Case Western Reserve Highlights:

- Gigi Morally totaled a career-high 17 kills for NYU.
 
- Brooke Tannahill also set a career-high with 16 digs.
 
- Emily Moore had a match high of 24 assists.

- Rayne Ellis contributed with six blocks.
 
- Allie Williams led the middle blockers with a .231 hitting percentage.
 
"Allie WIlliams had an overall strong weekend," said Head Coach Jolie Ward. "I am glad to see her back in action after some missed matches earlier this season.  

"Rayne Ellis also contributed seamlessly to the lineup and there was a strong overall defense for the weekend,":Ward added.  

NYU returns to the court this Wednesday, October 22, at 6 pm, when the Violets host the Stevens Institute of Technoloigy at the Coles Sports Center on Senior Night.
