The New York University women's soccer team suffered its first University Athletic Association (UAA) defeat of the season, 1-0, to Carnegie Mellon University on Sunday afternoon, October 19, at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY.

The Violets (9-4-1, 2-1-1 UAA) entered the game ranked #23 in the nation in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Poll, while the Tartans (11-1-0, 3-1-0 UAA) were ranked #5.

Cassie Steinberg led the Violets in a tough matchup between two top-25 squads, recording five saves on the afternoon. Overall, Carnegie Mellon outshot NYU 15-4, including 6-1 in shots on net.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Cami Crawford attempted the Violets' lone shot on goal vs. the Tartans.

- There were no cards handed out during the contest, but each team was called for 11 fouls.

- The lone goal of the game came in the 68th minute from a header directly off a Carnegie Mellon corner kick.

NYU will return to action on Tuesday night, October 21, when it travels to Patchogue, NY, to face St. Joseph's College-Long Island. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm and live stats will be available.
