The New York University women's soccer team controlled every facet of the game in its 3-0 victory on Tuesday, September 24, over St. Joseph's College (LI) at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. The Violets totaled an astounding 42 shots, one shy of tying the program record. In addition, NYU ammassed 19 shots on goal.
NYU was led by sophomore forward
Melissa Menta, who notched her third score of the season and added her second assist of year, as well. In addition, sophomore midfielder
Sofia Toohey scored her first goal of the season in the middle of the second half.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Junior forward
Amelia Hammerl scored her third goal of the season just over three minutes into the second half. Menta placed a beautiful cross in front and Hammerl was able to head it in for the 2-0 lead.
- Menta's goal came just over 17 minutes into the game, as she broke free off a pass from junior forward
Claire Shanahan and put it past the Golden Eagles' keeper.
- Rookie goalkeeper
Cassie Steinberg recorded her first collegiate win, stopping two shots.
The Violets will be back in action for another non-conference home contest on Wednesday, October 2, when they host William Paterson University for a scheduled 7:00 PM kickoff.
"I was very happy with our attacking performance today," said Head Coach Michelle Canning. "I thought we did a great job putting into play what we've worked on in practice."
