The New York University women's volleyball team (8-1) began the NYU Violet Classic with a win over inter-state rival Rochester Institute of Technology (7-6) on Friday, September 20, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.
The Violets defeated the Tigers in straight sets by a score of 25-17, 28-26, 25-12. The victory extended the NYU's win streak to a season-high six straight matches.
After a dominate first set, NYU was forced to overcome a 21-24 deficit in the second before crusing to victory in the final set.

Alexandria Mao and
Gigi Morally led NYU with nine kills each.

Katie Robinson played outside and recorded eight kills with a .571 hitting percentage.

Emily Moore doled out a match-high 30 assists and recorded a career-best eight aces.

MaTia Hughes was splendid on defense with 12 digs.
- As a team, NYU out-killed RIT 41-28.
"This was a great character-building experience for us," said NYU Head Coach
Jolie Ward. "We displayed resilience and fortitude in the second set and I was very happy to see our freshman Gigi and
Josie Luck step up and play excellent.
Emily Moore also played exceptional for us today."
The Violets continue play in the Classic on Saturday, September 21, against UMass-Boston. at 10:30am and SUNY New Paltz at 2:30pm..
